Thai Cooking Classes at the Thai House.  Courses, which impart the many secrets of Thai cuisine,  are designed for participants with little time but who wish to acquire the basic knowledge needed to create menus for home entertainment or simply to enjoy a delicious home-cooked meal.


To gain a full appreciation of the essence of Thai cuisine, the course begins with an introduction to the kitchen lay-out, the utensils, the cooking techniques, Thai food names, the selection of ingredients and basic food groups.


The cooking classes are held in an outdoor classroom in an orchard in the midst of mango, banana, papaya and coconut trees, and a kitchen garden of fresh herbs and spices used in the recipes. The sessions, which feature brief lectures, the preparation of ingredients, hands-on cooking demonstrations and time for discussion, are conducted in an open air kitchen.


Regardless of their prior culinary experience, participants learn new skills such as how to blend fresh herbs and spices using traditional utensils such as the mortar, pestle and the coconut grinder; pick up authentic recipes and find out about the great variety of fresh vegetables, some of which are picked fresh from the gardens. The main topics covered in the course are soups, salads, curry pastes and curried stir-fried dishes, decorative fruit and vegetable carvings and desserts.


To promote a positive learning experience and ensure productive sessions, the maximum class size is limited to 10 participants per session.   At the end of the course, most participants will be able to prepare a complete dinner menu of their choice.


An excursion to the traditional open-air market is part of the total learning experience so they learn how the fresh ingredients are selected. Discussions also offer insight into fascinating Thai culinary traditions.  For leisure, guests venture beyond The Thai House to explore the local village and discover more about life along the 'klong'.

  • Remarks:

  • The Thai House is situated 22 kms. from Bangkok and can be easily accessed by road or river transportation. The trip by river or land can be made within an hour's travel time from the city. Guests to The Thai House are met at the Bangkok hotel by an English-speaking guide at approximately 08:30 for the transfer by van or boat. The return trip back to Bangkok will be by van and the estimated time of arrival at the hotel is 17:00.
